It’s all in the name. Adventure bikes are a key ingredient to two-wheeled adventures that span dirt, asphalt and the nebulous areas between. With a mission that spans such a wide variety of conditions, it’s inevitable that adventure bikes are an ill-defined group. We have gathered the bikes that we think best fits the calling. We also have prices, photos and descriptions. Those prices do not include destination, taxes and other dealer fees. Happy hunting!

2023 ADVENTURE BIKE BUYER'S GUIDE (1)

KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R: $20,299
The 1290 Super Adventure R has been fit with a new frame that enhances cornering, a longer swingarm for tracking, and new wheels and sealing for the Akront tubeless rims. WP suspension is used fore and aft, along with a WP steering damper, adjustable footpegs, Brembo brakes, and a new fuel tank with an electronically controlled gas cap and a storage department. The twin cylinder is a chain-driven, 6-speed engine with a Pasc slipper clutch and advanced electronics. It’s Ride-by-Wire and features Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) with multi-mode Combined ABS and Multi-mode Traction Control (MTC), including Sport, Street, Off-Road and Rain settings that allow the rider to fine-tune the power application in any situation. It has an adjustable 7-inch TFT dash, adjustable windshield, cruise control and stock items.

KTM 1290 ADVENTURE S: $20,299
This is KTM’s more street-biased 1290 with alloy wheels that are lightweight and fit with a 19/17 combo using Mitas Terra Force-R tires. Its suspension uses WP’s Semi-Active Technology with electronically controlled magnetic values, which are adjustable at the dashboard. The dashboard is organized on the new 7-inch TFT display and is equipped with ride-by-wire, features a Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) package with multi-mode Combined ABS and Multi-mode Traction Control (MTC), including Sport, Street, Off-Road and Rain settings. It has separate seats for the rider and passenger. The front seat is adjustable.

BMW R 1250 GS: $21,935
The more tarmac-suited of the big Beemers, the R 1250 GS comes with seven ride modes, Dynamic Traction Control and Hill-Start Control. It has a height-adjustable seat (seat heaters are optional), cast-aluminum wheels, ABS, an adjustable windshield, and connectivity with the 6.5-inch TFT display. The lights are LED. It comes with a steering damper, has an enduro package available (engine protection, handlebar risers, sport suspension and off-road tires) and, as with the entire BMW line, there are available upgrades to just about every facet of the machine.

BMW R1250 GS ADVENTURE: $24,335
This is BMW’s flagship ADV machine and is the more dirtoriented of the BMW GS 1250 line. The GS Adventure 1250 has the 136-horsepower Boxer engine that’s a twin-cam, liquidcooled 6-speeder that is fit with a BMW ShiftCam variable camshaft control system and full LED lighting. The Adventure has a 7.9-gallon fuel cell, a 6.5-inch TFT display, and Ride Modes Pro, which has up to seven modes with new dynamic engine brake control, ensuring optimum control on any terrain. The standard Eco mode gets more range out of every tank of fuel. It has spoked wheels, a steering damper, 8.3 inches of travel out of the BMW Telelever central-spring strut front suspension and 8.7 inches from the single-sided swingarm with BMW Paralever, and WAD-strut rear suspension. As with everything in the BMW line, there are many upgrade options.

TRIUMPH TIGER 1200 RALLY PRO: $22,500
The Tiger Rally Pro is more dirt-oriented, features the all-new 1160cc, inline, three-cylinder engine; 6-speed gearbox; shaft drive; and long-travel (8.6-inch), electronic, semi-active Showa suspension with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel. It has Triumph’s adaptive cornering lighting; a full-color, 7-inch, TFT instrument display; all LED lighting; an ergonomic, backlit switch-gear incorporating updated cruise control; Triumph shift assist for clutch-less up and down gear changes; a seamless, key-less ignition; plus handguards; and engine protection. It has five riding modes, and the Pro comes with Off-Road Pro, which enhances the dirt experience.

TRIUMPH TIGER 1200 RALLY EXPLORER: $24,200
The Tiger Rally Explorer is also dirt-oriented but has a larger 7.9-gallon fuel tank. It features the all-new, 1160cc, in-line, three-cylinder engine; 6-speed gearbox; shaft drive; and long-travel electronic Showa suspension. The Tiger Rally is equipped with Triumph’s Blind Spot radar, adaptive cornering lighting, and a full-color TFT instrument display. The Explorer has all LED lighting; an ergonomic, backlit switchgear incorporating updated cruise control; Triumph shift-assist for clutch-less up and down gear changes; fuel tank protection bars; heated seat; and taller handlebar risers.

TRIUMPH TIGER 1200 GT/GT PRO/GT EXPLORER: $19,100/$21,400/$23,100
The Tiger 1200 GT range is from their ADV line that targets a more on-road ride approach to adventure riding. The all-new, 1160cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline, three-cylinder engine is a 6-speed shaft drive that puts out 147 horsepower and has multi-point sequential electronic fuel injection with electronic throttle control. It’s fit with cast wheels (19/18), Brembo brakes, a 7-inch TFT instrument pack, and Showa suspension with 7.87 inches of travel. The GT Explorer is fit with Blind Spot Radar, ABS, three riding modes, traction control, LED lighting and a 7.9-gallon fuel tank.

YAMAHA SUPER TENERE ES: $16,299
Yamaha’s Super Ténéré ES is powered by an 1199cc parallel twin and is a shaft-drive 6-speed that uses a twin-downdraft throttle body for control and acceleration. It has a two-position Drive mode, allowing the rider to adjust mapping for conditions, and has cruise control and traction control with three modes to match traction conditions. Push-button, electronically adjusted KYB suspension has four preload settings, three damping presets and an additional seven fine-tuning damping adjustments, as well as an adjustable saddle height.

DUCATI MULTISTRADA V4 RALLY: $29,950
A very customizable machine, the new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is powered by an 1158cc V4 Granturismo engine that delivers 170 horsepower (125 kW) at 10,750 rpm. In the Enduro riding mode with Off-Road power mode, it drops to 114 horsepower for a more dynamic, direct response and a reduction in consumption and emissions. It’s fit with a new, 7.9-gallon aluminum tank and new Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution semi-active suspension. The Skyhook DSS EVO suspension has increased travel (7.9 inches), auto-leveling, minimum preload and a suspension lowering kit.

SUZUKI V-STROM 1050 DE: $15,599
The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE Adventure has a brand-new chassis with better ground clearance and all-new, longertravel suspension. It comes with spoked wheels that are fit with Dunlop ADV tires, and the 5-inch TFT panel shows off Suzuki’s SIR settings, which include five modes for traction control, including the new off-road Gravel Mode. The liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1037cc, 90-degree, V-twin engine delivers more horsepower with the same level of torque and fuel economy. It uses a Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle system, has adaptable ABS and a quick-shifting feature.

SUZUKI V-STROM 1050DE ADVENTURE: $17,599
The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE Adventure rides in a new chassis with better ground clearance and all-new, longer-travel suspension. The spoked wheels are fit with aggressive Dunlop ADV rubber, and the 5-inch TFT panel shows off Suzuki’s SIR settings, which include five modes for traction control, including the new off-road Gravel mode. The liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1037cc, 90-degree, V-twin engine delivers more horsepower with the same level of torque and fuel economy. It uses a Rideby-Wire electronic throttle system, has adaptable ABS and a quick-shifting feature. The Adventure version adds aluminum panniers and LED fog lights.

HONDA AFRICA TWIN: $14,499, DCT MODEL; $15,299
The Honda Africa Twin returns in 2023 with no changes other than some new paint schemes. As before, the 1084cc Africa Twin pumps out 100.6 horsepower, with both models offered in either a manual transmission or a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). It has cruise control and a full 9.1 inches of front travel via Showa suspension. It features a 6.5-inch, touch-panel, LCD, multi-information dash display. You can choose between three displays, and the screen also enables the Africa Twin to offer integrated Apple CarPlay.

HONDA AFRICA TWIN ADVENTURE SPORTS ES: $17,299/$18,099 DCT (2022 MODEL)
Unchanged, the 1084cc Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES is Honda’s big dog in the serious ADV habitat. The Showa suspension is electronically controlled (Showa EERA-5 damping settings: hard, medium, soft, off-road and customizable), and the vehicle has an adjustable saddle, wind-screen, a taller tapered aluminum handlebar, and heated grips. The Africa Twin’s Throttle-by-Wire system gives access to Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). Here you can dial in the power delivery that you want. There’s a wheelie control that works through front- and rear-wheel sensors, and the shock has a remote preload adjuster for easy adjustments. The fuel capacity is 6.5 gallons.

KAWASAKI VERSYS 1000 SE LT: $18,899
The Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT is a well-equipped adventure touring machine. It features Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension (KECS), integrated riding modes, a Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), Electronic Cruise Control and a TFT color meter. It’s fit with a slipper clutch and KIBS intelligent braking, plus has two Power modes, electronic cruise control, Kawasaki Quick Shift and an ECO mode for fuel conservation. The 1000 has a 5.5-gallon fuel tank, heated grips, a large adjustable windscreen and a KQR 28-liter saddlebag system.

DUCATI 950 DESERTX: $17,095
The Ducati DesertX is fit with a 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel, long-stroke suspension and a new frame designed specifically for the off-road experience. It’s powered by a 937cc, liquid-cooled twin that makes 110 horsepower. Updated gear ratios and multiple riding modes help off-road functionality. The big news is the KYB suspension, a 46mm, 9-inch-travel fork and a tuneable KYB rear damper with similar travel. It has Beefy Brembo brakes with ABS and spoked wheels equipped with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tubeless tires. The DesertX tips the scales at 492 pounds with the 5.5-gallon fuel tank topped off.

MV AGUSTA LUCKY EXPLORER 9.5: TBA
Graphically based around the epic Lucky Explorer Dakar machines, the MV Augusta 9.5 has strong off-road character and class-leading technology. The engine is a new, 950 triple that puts out 124 horsepower. The frame is steel. The swingarm is aluminum. It uses 21-inch/18-inch wheels and long-travel Sachs suspension (8.6 inches front/8.3 inches rear). It has a TFT, 7-inch, Full HD Dashboard; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity; cruise control; launch control; eight-level traction control, a GPS sensor, Immobilizer, full LED headlight with DRL and bending function, full LED taillight, fog light, MV Ride app with turn-by-turn navigation system, engine and vehicle setup.

MOTO GUZZI V85 TT: $11,990–$13,790
The classic Moto Guzzi V85 TT has an air-cooled, 853cc, fuel-injected, V-twin motor with 76 horsepower, with enhanced low and medium power this year. It has five riding modes, making it easier to manage traction, ABS and pick-up via the Ride-by-Wire handlebar control. Cruise control and a color TFT instrument panel come standard. The fuel tank holds a little more than 6.0 gallons, and the wheels are a spoked 19-inch front, 17-inch rear combination. Moto Guzzi has several styles, including the VTT travel and adventure-specific models.

TRIUMPH TIGER 900 GT/GT PRO: $14,700/$16,600
Triumph’s 900 GT is definitely a road-going adventure machine. The 900cc triple uses a unique, 1-3-2 firing order, makes 94 horsepower, and comes fit with a torque assist clutch, four riding modes (five modes in the Pro) and Marzocchi suspension fore and aft. The Pro features electronically adjustable rear suspension. The brakes are Brembo. The Tiger 900 holds 5.28 gallons of fuel. The GT uses a 5-inch, TFT, multi-functional instrument pack; the GT Pro has a 7-inch, full-color instrument panel; cast alloy wheels; a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear.

TRIUMPH TIGER 900 RALLY: $15,400
The Tiger Triple 900 Rally is for the dirt adventurer, with its spoked (21-/17-inch) wheels and adjustable Showa suspension (9.44-inch front/9.05-inch rear). It has optimized cornering ABS, traction control, Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires, heated grips and four riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, Off-Road) that help focus the 94 horsepower that the triple produces.

TRIUMPH TIGER 900 RALLY PRO: $17,100
The Rally Pro mirrors the Rally version but has My Triumph connectivity and a Bluetooth module enabling phone calls, music, turn-by-turn navigation, and GoPro control. It also comes fit with Triumph shift assist (quick clutch-less gear changes), six riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport, Off-Road, Off-Road Pro and Rider Programmable), and LED lighting. The suspension is Showa at over 9 inches of travel. It has heated grips and heated seats.

KTM 890 ADVENTURE R: $15,199
KTM’S 890 Adventure R has an off-road persona inspired by the Dakar Team and churns out serious horsepower. It’s equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch in the compact parallel twin. Cornering (On- and Off-Road) ABS, MTC and ride modes are there to assist in a variety of conditions. The 890 R gets new valving in the WP XPLOR suspension, a WP steering damper, and an adjustable lowprofile windscreen. The brakes are Brembo, and the tires in the spoked wheels are Mitas Enduro Trails designed for versatile ADV riding.

KTM 890 ADVENTURE: $13,949
This machine is a notch-less, Dakar-oriented version than the R but comes equipped with all-new suspension specs, improved seat comfort and wind protection. It comes with cornering (on and off-road) ABS, MTC and specially engineered ride modes in the electronics. The brakes are Brembo. The tires on the spoked wheels are off-road-oriented Pirelli Scorpion STRs. Both compression and rebound damping are on-the-fly adjustable on the WP Apex fork, while the WP Apex shock has rebound and spring preload adjustability.

BMW F 850 GS ADVENTURE: $14,290
BMW’s more versatile 850-class adventure machine, the new 850 GS Adventure, gets 90 horsepower out of the paralleltwin, water-cooled engine. The fuel tank holds 6.1 gallons. The wheels are cross-spoked, and the front is a 21-inch (preferred for off-road). The windshield is adjustable. There are two ride modes (Rain/Road), ABS, and Dynamic Traction Control, and it comes with a rack and engine guards for protection. The F 850 GS Adventure offers 9.1 inches of front suspension travel and 8.5 inches of rear suspension travel. As an option, you can get Dynamic ESA, which is electronic suspension adjustment.

BMW F 850 GS: $13,290
The 850 GS makes strong power (90 horsepower) through the twin inline engine. It comes fit with Automatic Stability Control (ASC), which regulates the power transmission to the rear wheel, while the standard Road and Rain ride modes regulate the throttle response. You can upgrade and add the Pro mode and Dynamic ESA, which enhance the versatility and stability of the machine. The fuel tank is smaller on the standard GS (4.0 gallons), has a little less suspension travel, and uses spoked wheels, a tall windshield, and a skid plate for the ignition.

TRIUMPH TIGER 850 SPORT: $11,995
Designed for road-going adventure, the Tiger 850 Sport features a triple-engine configuration, makes 84 horsepower, and comes with Marzocchi suspension front and rear. It has an adjustable windscreen, two seat heights, a 5.2-gallon fuel tank, and electronics that offer switchable traction control, Rain and Road riding modes, and ABS.

SUZUKI V-STROM 800DE: TBA
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE features their brand-new, parallel-twin, 776cc, DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder engine, a new steel frame, long-travel (8.7-in) Showa suspension, a rear shock that has a hydraulic spring preload adjuster, and the most ground clearance of any V-Strom model ever. The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) includes traction control with a trail-oriented Gravel mode, plus rideradjustable ABS with two levels of sensitivity and the ability to switch off the rear-wheel ABS when riding off-road.

SUZUKI V-STROM 800DE ADVENTURE: TBA
The Adventure version of the 800DE uses the new, paralleltwin, 776cc, DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder engine, a new steel frame, long-travel (8.7 inches) Showa suspension, a rear shock that has a hydraulic spring preload adjuster, and the most ground clearance of any V-Strom model ever. The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) includes traction control with a trail-oriented Gravel mode, plus rider-adjustable ABS with two levels of sensitivity. The V-Strom 800DE Adventure is equipped with quick-release, black-anodized, 37-liter aluminum panniers, plus a rugged bar, and aluminum skid pan for true off-road touring capability.

BMW F 750GS: $10,690
The BMW F 750 GS breathes out 77 horsepower out of the parallel-twin engine. It uses a slipper clutch, has ABS braking, and being more street-focused, it’s fit with cast wheels using a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear. Suspension travel is 6.7 inches in front and 7.5 inches at the rear. It has an LED headlight, selectable ride modes (Rain/Road), and a 6.5-inch TFT display, along with a host of options, including a new extra-low seat, low suspension and additional ride modes.

HONDA NC750X DCT: $9399
For 2023, the NC750X comes equipped with Honda’s automatic Dual Clutch Transmission. You basically shift with the push of a button or go full auto and it shifts itself. This machine showcases versatility, but leans more towards street than off-road. It’s a SOHC, eight-valve parallel twin with two-level Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). The suspension is Showa (5.5 inches). It uses cast-aluminum wheels, ride-by wire, and four selectable power modes. The 3.7-gallon fuel tank resides under the seat for centralized mass.

URAL GEAR UP: $19,899 (2022 MODEL)
Ural’s Gear Up is a dirt-oriented, 750cc, opposed-twin sidecar motorcycle. It has two-wheel drive, reverse and a spare tire. They now have Keihin fuel injection. The gearbox is a four-speed with a reverse gear, produces 41 horsepower, and is shaft driven. Front suspension is an IMZ leading-link system with Sachs handling the rear end. The sidecar is lockable, and the Gear Up has high-end Heidenau tires. Last year it received a two-into-one exhaust, Brembo rear brakes, Heidenau tires, a forged-aluminum swingarm and a new center stand.

GASGAS ES700: $12,699

This is the first dual-sport/adventure bike offering under the GasGas name. If has the same basic motor and chassis as the KTM 690 Enduro and the Husqvarna 701 Enduro, but has its own bodywork. It featuresRide-by-Wire and electronic systems with three modes—Off-Road, Street and Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC)—while the ABS system offers an optional Off-Road mode. A trellis frame is fit with machined triple clamps and WP XPLOR suspension.

YAMAHA TENERE 700 :$10,499

The Yamaha Tenere 700 is powered by a 689cc liquid cooled inline twin derived from the MT-07. The six-speed transmission “stacks” the gearbox and the crankshaft in a triangular layout to keep the overall engine size shorter front-to-back, which optimizes engine placement in the frame for proper weight balance. It has switchable ABS, 8.3 inches of fork travel with 7.9 inches out back.

HUSQVARNA 701 ENDURO: $12,999
The Husqvarna 701 Enduro is most definitely an overcharged dual-sport machine. It features a 74-horsepower engine that uses advanced electronics, 50mm Keihin fuel injection, a Ride-by-Wire throttle, and a 6-speed gearbox that uses an APTC (Adler Power Torque Clutch), which allows for greater speeds in corners, enhanced grip and less braking chatter. It’s wrapped around a trellis frame and a rear subframe that houses a 13-liter (3.4-gallon) plastic fuel tank. The suspension is WP with a 250mm-travel XPLOR fork and identical rear-wheel travel, which exploits its dirt worthiness.

KTM 690 ENDURO R: $12,999
This machine fits into the adventure category but is minimalist enough to qualify as a big-boy dual-sport machine. The 690 Enduro R’s LC4 single-cylinder engine features two balancer shafts, Ride-by-Wire and electronic systems that feature three switchable modes—Off-Road, Street and Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC)—while the ABS system offers an optional Off-Road mode. A trellis frame is fit with machined triple clamps and WP XPLOR suspension with new settings for better off-road absorption.

TRIUMPH SPORT 660: $9495
Basically a commuter machine, this inline, three-cylinder, 660cc, liquid-cooled and fuel-injected machine has a 6-speed gearbox, Showa remote adjustable suspension (150mm travel), Nissin brakes and a 4.4-gallon fuel tank. It has two riding modes, ABS, switchable traction control and weighs in at 455 pounds wet.

MOTO MORINI X-CAPE: TBA

Morini is a legacy name in Italy with a long history. The X-Cape is a 649cc in-line twin with Brembo brakes and a high-resolution TFT display. You can equip it with afull line of accessories such as lockable, lightweight, aluminum Trio bags to maximize storage, bolt on safety bars, heated grips and other functional accessories ready for any adventure.

MV AGUSTA LUCKY EXPLORER 5.5: TBA
Based on the infamous Lucky Explorer Dakar machines of the ’80s, the MV Agusta Lucky Explorer 5.5 is a two-cylinder, eight-valve engine with 554cc of displacement and makes 47 horsepower. Suspension is Kayaba, and the brakes are Brembo with Bosch ABS. The tank holds 4.3 gallons of fuel. The lighting is LED, and it has a 33.8-inch seat height. This bike hasn’t yet been seen on U.S. shores.

SUZUKI V-STROM 650XT: $9599
The 2023 V-Strom 650XT has a liquid-cooled, 645cc, 90-degree, V-twin engine and is fit with Suzuki’s traction control and their patented throttle body that stabilizes engine idle speed and lowers emissions. The XT comes with handguards and engine protection. It also has traction control, ABS braking and tubeless Bridgestone Battlax radial tires on spoked wheels in a 19/17-inch combination.

SUZUKI V-STROM 650 XT ADVENTURE: $10,799
The V-Strom 650XT Adventure focuses on rider comfort and a versatile performance package. The V-twin electronics use Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System, Easy Start System, Low RPM Assist feature, plus ABS technology. It has spoke-style wheels with blue-anodized aluminum rims that carry tubeless radial dual-sport tires. It has handguards and a protective lower-engine cowl. It comes fit with a 5.3-gallon fuel tank and has a three-way-adjustable windscreen, a 43mm fork, plus a set of Suzuki’s aluminum panniers, an accessory bar, a handlebar cross-brace and mirror extensions.

KAWASAKI VERSYS 650 LT: $10,099
The 649cc, parallel-twin engine has a 6-speed gearbox and sealed chain driveline. Cast-aluminum 17-inch wheels, ABS braking with dual rotors up front and just under 6 inches of travel target the adventure side of touring. The Versys 650 LT comes equipped with a set of hard saddlebags featuring KQR mounts and an integrated mounting system that utilizes the ignition key for simple saddlebag unlocking and removal. The LT version is fit with handguards. It has an adjustable windscreen, TFT color instrumentation with smartphone connectivity, LED lighting and Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC).

KAWASAKI KLR650 ADVENTURE: $7899; 8199 W/ ABS
Last year Kawasaki gave the KLR650 a heap of new features in addition to electronic fuel injection. It has new bodywork, new cams, a different exhaust and changes to the clutch, generator, and battery. The KLR 650 has an LED headlight and changes to the frame geometry, suspension, and brakes. The fork is a conventional, non-adjustable, 41mm fork, and the Uni-Trak shock is adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping. The KLR 650 Adventure is the elite of the KLR-based machines equipped with factoryinstalled side cases, engine guards, tank pad, LED auxiliary light set, DC power outlet, and a USB socket.

HONDA CB500X: $7199 (2022 MODEL)
The Honda CB500X received a new inverted Showa fork in 2022, along with dual-disc front brakes. It favors street touring as the 471cc twin makes good power, is fuel-injected, and has received some performance updates that improved the torque of the machine. A revamped intake tract and fuel-injection mate to a slipper clutch with a lighter pull and smoother downshifts. The front wheel is now a 19-inch model, and it gets ABS brakes as standard equipment.

CSC RX4 ADVENTURE Price $4995
The RX4 has a 450cc, fuel-injected, DOHC motor with a 6-speed gearbox. The 5.3-gallon fuel tank gives it a range of around 300 miles. It comes equipped with an adjustable windscreen, a 7-inch TFT display, ABS, LED lighting, and dual disc brakes, plus the RX4 comes with molded side cases and a tall rear box. It’s equipped with Ride-by-Wire and a slipper clutch. The frame is tubular steel. It has an upside-down fork with 7.1 inches of travel. It comes with ABS braking, and a 19-inch cast front wheel mates to a 17-inch cast rear. It weighs 386 pounds fully fueled up.

KAWASAKI VERSYS-X 300: $5899/$6199 W/ABS
The Versys-X is Kawasaki’s most economical, entry-level machine designed for adventure touring. Power flows through a 296cc parallel twin, which gets fuel via a digital fuel-injection system. It comes equipped with a 41mm Showa fork, a 19-inch front wheel, a 17-inch rear wheel, front cowling, a tall windshield and a 4.5-gallon fuel tank that is good for a long exploration ride.

Honda’s CRF 300L Rally gets the factory look of a true rally racer. The tall windscreen, extra-coverage fairing and side panels, and the blended, frame-mounted bodywork all come from rally DNA. It features a steel perimeter frame. Suspension is handled with a 43mm fork with 10.2 inch-es of travel, with the rear Pro-Link receiving the same. It has front and rear disc brakes, a 3.4-gallon tank, and weighs in at 331 pounds.
