Sky Brown is an inspirational sports personality - not only is she Great Britain's first-ever park skateboarding world champion, she is the youngest British Olympian of all time (as of 2023) and the proud owner of an Olympic bronze medal.

Brown became Great Britain's youngest Olympic medal winner of all time when she won park bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games at the age of 13.

The 11-year-old, who is hoping to become Britain's youngest ever Olympian, suffered skull fractures and broke her left wrist and hand, before being taken to hospital by helicopter. Brown, who has now left hospital, is expected to make a full recovery and revealed that her helmet saved her life.

Brown suffered multiple fractures to her skull, a broken left arm, broken right fingers and lacerations to her heart and lungs, according to her father. Four days later, she was smiling and watching TikTok videos in her hospital bed.

Brown lives in Miyazaki, but spends around half the year in the US. Her family are skateboarders, and her preschool had a skate park. She has a skating ramp in her back garden, as there are no skate parks in her home area of Takanabe, Miyazaki. Aside from skateboarding, Brown is interested in surfing.

Sky's dad Stuart is a long-time surfer and skater. “He built a backyard mini ramp in our place in California,” said Sky, “and skated everyday with his friends, and I would steal his board, which became my favourite toy when I was small.” Sky's learning curve was remarkable.

Sky reportedly chose Team Great Britain over Team Japan because of their relaxed approach. As Sky told BBC Sport, she chose Team Great Britain over Team Japan because of their laid-back mentality. "The British Skateboarding Association, they told me 'No pressure, just have fun and get out there," Sky said in 2019.

In May 2020, Brown was left with a multiple-fractured skull and broken arm after a “horrific” half-pipe fall in training in California. Her father Stuart, who was filming, said his daughter was “lucky to be alive” having been unresponsive upon arrival at the hospital via an emergency helicopter.
