Stone Ridge is seeking a full-time Upper School Social History Teacher to begin in August, 2024.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 750 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
The Upper School History Teacher is responsible for teaching history or social sciences in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
The Upper School History Teacher:
- must possess strong knowledge of World History—with a focus on a broad range of voices and perspectives—and a willingness to learn and implement new content.
- will teach World History—circa 1000 to the present day—over the course of two years. Emphasis on study skills, critical reading, research, essay writing, and presentations.
- will collaborate closely with colleagues in the History & Social Sciences Department and throughout the Upper School.
- will assist in creating and updating plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
- will actively collaborate with Learning Strategists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students.
- will maintain good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.
Requirements and Qualifications
The applicant should have:
- a track record of successful teaching (or learning); a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities; and experience integrating appropriate educational technologies into her/his teaching.
- strong writing and communication skills.
- familiarity with current emphases on research, writing instruction, and source citation methodology.
- a demonstrated desire to innovate and collaborate.
- a noted capacity for organization, follow-through, creativity, and flexibility.
Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience.
